Getting Started with Pearl
PEARL is a public school serving students across Washington State and operates under Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) requirements. Families lead daily learning at home, with guidance and support from a certificated PEARL teacher.
-
The Student Learning Plan (SLP) guides your student’s learning for the year and is created in collaboration with your teacher. It outlines curriculum choices and a general timeline for learning.
- Created with your teacher
- Includes curriculum and monthly pacing
- Managed and updated throughout the year
-
Weekly contact is how PEARL tracks attendance and stays connected to student learning. Students share what they’ve worked on, and teachers respond.
- Required each week
- Student shares learning in their own words
- Completed through Seesaw and Zoom
- Meets Washington State attendance requirements
-
Your teacher completes a monthly review to document progress and celebrate learning. This is based on both student work and parent input.
- Based on weekly contact and a parent-provided monthly report
- Shared for you and your student to review together
-
PEARL students participate in required assessments to monitor progress and meet state expectations.
- All students complete district reading and math assessments twice a year (parent proctored)
- Full-time students (grades 3–8) participate in state testing
- Expect 2–3 days of testing and required test preparation
-
Your teacher is your main point of contact and will support you throughout the year.
- Seesaw is used for submitting work and communication
- Teachers send a weekly email outlining student contact for the week and sharing important announcements
- Reach out anytime with questions or for support
