Teacher
Being a teacher has been my dream job since I was nine years old. My teaching journey officially began as a second grade and later a third grade teacher in Oregon. However, when my husband and I had our oldest daughter, I moved from public school teaching to full-time mama - and one baby became five over the next 11 years. I substitute taught from time to time at our local schools, but when that oldest baby was set to enter kindergarten, we decided to look at all our options. We decided to work with a parent partnership for our oldest three children, before discovering PEARL. Our three youngest have been enrolled in PEARL, and I was hired as a substitute teacher for PEARL in 2023 and as a teacher and substitute in 2024.
Outside of working with PEARL, I continue to homeschool our own high school children and work with PEARL for our K-8 children. However, our oldest graduated high school in 2024 so I'm no longer a huge part of her educational journey! I also volunteer with our local homeschool co-op by helping to organize all the classes for our Friday School co-op days and enjoy building community while also allowing our children to enjoy a variety of elective classes. My children are all involved with our local schools for sports (cross country, basketball, and track) and in music with a local teacher, so my husband and I are usually found cheering them on in extracurricular activities as well.
Personally, I love traveling (as our life schedule will allow with active children), paddle boarding, reading books, playing board games, and enjoying conversations on our front porch with any family or friends who visit. Hiking to waterfalls, watching sunsets, and enjoying anything we can do as a family are favorites of mine as well. I also love a good bonfire, especially if it includes roasting marshmallows and sitting out under the stars.
